Knit-Finity

By Alice Seidel As summer wanes, I love to muse on all things knitting. We live in such an uproarious world; days come and go with little of anything harmonious fitting into the hours. We all need, we all crave our own special space, our own little nook, somewhere just for us. And that’s ok. Often we need to re-charge ourselves, plug into life’s energizing chords, to get ourselves going again. Think how time has changed. Where once it took weeks to traverse from one city to another, now we do it in just hours. The “calm” in our lives is always waiting in the wings; only rarely do we bring it out to sit center-stage. There is a reason baseball is such a long game; back in its heyday there was nothing more sublime than to bask in the aura of a well- played game with friends and family. If it took all afternoon, that was a good thing. Look at the old homes in your town, and most of them are favored with front porches. Lovely to look at, and the place to gather with others to recoup the days’ graces and to recount all its pleasures. Letter writing was once the art of the day. Being as important, long ago, as email is to us now, we think of writing letters as time- comsuming. But, in the days before television, radio, and cars, time needed to be filled up with worthy endeavors. Life may not have been as modern as today, but it had other resources many of which we are re-discovering in a new century. Even the Bible tells us that we should “aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands”. Myriad gifts pass through our lives; knitting is mine. It puts me in mind of great cathedrals; they all began with the laying of one stone. So my precious creations begin with one stitch. Foundations are what we make them. Once learned, knitting is a cherished talent; one used to create for yourself, for your loved ones, your dear friends, even those you don’t know and will never meet. Never again will you look at store-bought apparel in the same way! When special occasions drift through your life, you will be ready with your own memorable masterpieces. Knitting brings inspiration; in the inimitable words of Andy Griffith it’s “just pure gala!” If you need space and time in your life to gather in your very self, then learn knitting. As the yarn passes through your fingers, you will recognize it as your own very special gift to the world. Knitting is its own distinctive prayer and meditation; crafted by you. As you go, there is so much to knit! So many people to help, and all your handiwork given with your unique mark upon it. I once read in a magazine that “to live with history is a rare thing. It’s thrilling to know how things are put together and why they survive.” All knitters instinctively know the way to peace. It is more than turning off the TV or turning down the music; it’s in picking up your knitting needles. Solace awaits; blessings abound. Go knit, so your knitting will go into knit-finity. Teen Depression

By Shezz P Teen depression can happen for a number of reasons and tends to occur quite often when a teenager needs more help fitting in during their high school years. Teen depression can be triggered by something as simple as not being popular, not having great grades or not making the football team. Some teens get depressed because they come from a poor family and can’t afford to buy the right kind of clothes. Most schools have school counselors, but quite often they are over burdened and some students may not get a chance to speak with them. When a teenager becomes depressed they often feel alone and feel like they can’t turn to their parents or friends for help. Some teenagers even turn to self medication to make themselves feel better. So instead of receiving the right kind for counseling to treatment, some teenagers will instead turn to drugs, alcohol or sexual activity. Sometimes teen depression can be prevented if we notice the warning signs of them becoming depressed. When a teenager becomes despondent and isolated, those are usually signs of teen depression. Others signs that your teen may be suffering from depression is over or under eating or staying in bed until midday and having no interest in getting out of bed and enjoying life. You really do need to get your child help if you think they may be suffering from depression. If not treated they may carry on this depression for their whole lives and therefore will have fairly miserable lives. Also if they received the correct treatment straight away it may prevent the drugs and alcohol from becoming a major part of their life. There are many prescription drugs and counseling treatments available for your child. Help your teen get through the adolescent years and look ahead to the future. If you are not comfortable with putting your child on anti-depressant medications, there are also herbal treatments available that you can try, like St. Johns Wort, that can alleviate teen depression. Many parents who cant get help from counselors at school or therapists, have started to look around the internet. There are many different solutions for teen depression. As a parent you may even want to attend counseling sessions with your teenager and create an open environment so they may learn to open up and share their feelings. Adolescent years are difficult for more teenagers and increasing peer pressure drives some children to the edge. You can make a difference. Talking to a therapist or a psychiatrist or even going on the internet can give you more information on teen depression; and make your child safe and happy. A teenager who is well adjusted is less likely to get into trouble and more likely to succeed in life. A successful life is important for the future of your child and important for a parent as well. Ringtone Creation Software - Creating Raves or Waves?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lena_Vaughan]Lena Vaughan Okay, so we all know that you can change the ringtone on your mobile phone by purchasing a ringtone online. In fact, there are an endless number of web sites that will sell you a ringtone or wallpaper (prices vary from $.99 to $2.99 and in most cases will put the charge on your cell phone bill). One thing I have found however is that although I can choose from hundreds of ringtone web sites, most of them are selling the same array of ringtones. So, in my quest to make my mobile phone, and hence, my ringtone unique, I have found myself limited to the same assortment of 100 or so [decent] ringtones. Alas clever software companies have now developed software that will allow you to make your own ringtones from your own collection of CDs or MP3s. One such software product is Ringtone Media Studio, developed by Avanquest Software. Ringtone Media Studio actually includes three different studios; the Audio Studio for the creation of ringtones and the Image and Video studios to create mobile wallpapers and videos. Taking the unique-factor one step further, the Audio studio also includes a mixer so you can custom-arrange your ringtone and create something completely unique. With the advent of software such as Ringtone Media Studio, custom mixing of ringtones has become so popular that the term Ringtone DJ has been coined. So, has the creation of custom ringtones become an art form? I say most definitely-especially for those creative types; as ringtone creation can be seen as an off-shoot of the art of record spinning. Even for those not-so-creative types, creating ringtones is easy and somewhat addicting (I spent over 3 hours creating ringtones from the 5000+ piece Online Media Library which is included with Ringtone Media Studio). So now that music fans can create their own ringtones from their CDs and MP3 collections, what does this mean to the Music Industry which today views ringtones as salvation from their slump in sales? Ringtones to the music industry mean gravy certainly another revenue stream from which they can joyfully tap. But if users can buy software such as Ringtone Media Studio for $19.99, why spend $1.99 or more (according to the Atlantic Records website, ringtones are $1.99 and up) on just one? Users of course need to buy the song heck - they might even buy the whole CD before a ringtone can be made, so couldnt it be possible that ringtone creation software could actually increase music sales? I would think that consumers could actually be more compelled to purchase a CD if they have more than just one use for it. In fact, rather than buying a CD and just leaving it in a CD player for weeks, consumers can now transfer it to their PC, transfer it to their portable music player and now even make ringtones. Cool! Perhaps the music industry should embrace the ringtone creation software rather than fight it as being predicted by some. Time will certainly tell. In the meantime, consumers are certainly the winner today, with such a wide variety of ways to customize their phones and ringtones. Ringtone Media Studio is a product from software developer Avanquest Software. Zone Diet - Criticism

By Mark Lewis The Zone Diet does not only calculate fat and protein match but relates calorie burn as well. It considers the significance of other ingredients as well to maintain a balanced diet. The Zone Diet will highlight the use and side effects of fats proteins, and unlike others, of carbohydrates as well. Carbohydrates affect the hormonal activities and the level of insulin in a human body. A disturbance in these internal systems leads to heart diseases and cancers. This is what the Zone Diet takes concern of. A Zone Diet will suit every being as it keeps a balance between fats, proteins, carbohydrates and all other healthy ingredients. This balancing gives a healthy development of hormonal activities along with a loss in weight. Despite the fact that The Zone Diet stresses on the consequence of carbohydrates for affective hormonal activities involving the hormones like Eicosanoids that relates to different metabolic courses but its shortage is also related to chubbiness and many other diseases. Nevertheless, there is no scientific confirmation for the remarks suggested by the Zone Diet plan. Other than being not confirmed scientifically, it does not also lay any kind of emphasis on the importance of intake of vegetables. Every body knows that vegetables give a lot of health and serve as a good prevention from heart attacks, blood pressures, fat storage and fatness. Sewing With Fusible Thread

By Marian Lewis Here are a few tips and ideas when sewing with fusible thread. Fill a bobbin (slowly) or use it in your lower looper to simplify multiple tasks. Fusible thread creates a temporary bond to hold things in place while you complete the permanent stitching. It should not be used alone to make permanent seams. For perfect bias binding, use fusible thread in the bobbin. Use a zigzag stitch to join the binding to the garment or quilt. Fold the bias over the edge. Press the edge (do not iron) lightly to enclose it and fuse in place. Now, you can stitch-in-the-ditch or well of the seam to make perfect binding every time. Install centered zippers easily. Stitch down both sides of the back of the zipper tape with fusible thread in the bobbin. Center the zipper over the basted closed zipper seam allowances. Press in place. Now you can topstitch the zipper without any shifting. Remove the basted stitches to open the seam and zip your zipper. Fusible thread is ideal when you want to match plaids or a design. With fusible thread on the top of the machine, straight stitch on the right side of the fabric 1/2″ from the edge on one side of the seam. Fold this seam over on the 5/8″ stitching line. Line up this edge with the 5/8″ seam line on the other seam matching the plaid or design. Press and fuse in place. Now, stitch the seam as normal knowing that the design is matched and is held in place. Use fusible thread when working with fake suede or difficult fabrics to keep them in place when stitching. Use fusible thread to outline your appliques and fuse in place prior to satin stitching. Try using it in the lower looper of your serger with a decorative thread in the upper loopers to serge around picture frame placemats. Lay a length of fusible thread in the crease of your pants or in a pleat to help hold the crease. Cut a length of thread longer than you actually need. It shrinks up when it melts. Press, do not iron, to fuse the thread in the crease. For a quick and easy turned hem, serge the edge of the fabric with fusible thread in the lower looper. Turn the hem and lightly press to hold. Then, complete your final stitching. There are many uses for this thread. Try using it for basting and trapunto techniques, too. Try it! It just makes sense! 2006 Marian Lewis - All Rights Reserved - 1st Step To Sewing Success Marian Lewis is a sewing instructor and the creator of an amazing new fitting method for hard-to-fit sewing folks. Catch a Cheating Lover?

By Gary Durkin Relationships. Virtually all of us are in one, or at some stage, have been. In the early days things are great. The birds are singing, the sun seems to be brighter than it ever was, the stars sparkle more brilliantly than before its smiles all round. A great feeling. But, with the passage of time, often relationships can struggle, people grow apart, interests change.. People, couples, partners can drift away from each other - not necessarily any one persons fault. In fact, the fault often lies with both parties, but neither will accept it, and perhaps secretly or subconsciously blame the other person. When lives begins to drag, the excitement seems to have been drained away, routine can be tedious and even annoying, it is unbelievably simple to be stuck in a rut, or languish in the comfort zone. Spontaneity becomes just a word that only appears in a crossword puzzle, rather than being a spark to re-ignite a relationship. The sizzle turns into a simmer, then a shudder. Perhaps its the pressure of work, the bills and mortgage, or perhaps babies, children, schooling, college, university, exams, traffic jams, age creeping up on you, peer pressure, jealousy. the greener grass.. The fact is, its commonplace not to be able to put your finger on any single event or cause, which triggers the failure of a relationship. Its often an ongoing chain of events, frequently where one person is completely oblivious to the spiralling problems which develop into more serious issues. Its at this point when matters become a major, major threat. Perhaps one of the parties doesnt even realise their actions, they may just stumble into or onto, someone else. BANG. - The sparks fly - that long lost feeling resurfaces, tingles down the back of the neck, excitement, pleasurable attention which has been amiss for so long at home. Before you know - they are off starting a hidden, secretive affair behind your back. In the early days of an affair, the feeling of guilt is very high, but over time, this dissipates gradually to the point where they simply dont give a damn about you any longer. Dont get me wrong, they will still pretend everything is OK - they still love you of course, but slowly they make tiny, minuscule changes which one at a time, you probably dont notice, or perhaps you do, but well-prepared answers and excuses seem to work on you. All the time, you are oblivious. Or are you? Nagging doubts??.. Questioning actions??.Something not quite right?? Changes in routine??.. Strange looks?? Hidden whispers?? The worst of it comes when you confront the other person, only to be told .youre being silly.., or . of course I still love.. or .if you loved me, you would trust me… This could then leave you feeling worse, self-doubting and insecure. You are now in a quandary a dilemma.. A vicious circle of doubt which starts with you being unsure, but afraid to question as this could lead to problems - or even drive the other person away from you. This alone could drive you crazy. You begin to look at the other person in a different way, and their friends. Which of them knows about the affair? Whos involved? Who the affair with? Is it someone you know? Is it one of your friends? Is there, or isnt there something seedy happening? Are you being stabbed in the back? Are your friends betraying you? Who can you trust or talk to? Its a nightmare. At this point, the wrong move could completely ruin your relationship, especially if there really isnt any seedy affair going on, and your partner is faithful.. Perhaps its just your imagination, perhaps youre being paranoid but perhaps not. Can you see the paradox? There is no instant solution, no magic pill. Its all down to how you deal with the situation - whether the situation is all in your head. or something more. The key, is to avoid it happening in the first place.. But sometimes thats easier said than done. To avoid it follow a plan. One which youd be surprised just how many people ignore. 1. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. 2. Never take your partner for granted. 3. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. 4. Be spontaneous - occasionally and randomly. Dont try to do it regularly, that simply isnt spontaneous, is it? 5. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. 6. Take a step back now and then. Take a good look. Take stock Count your blessings. 7. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Do you see a picture developing? Communicating doesnt mean talking to them it means talking WITH them Listening to them.. Hearing what they say.. Understanding Compromising. And if it has past that stage - be very careful how you deal with matters. Sometimes it could be better to ignore things, put it out of your mind - other times you simply must know the truth before it all drives you mad. A Guide to Making Your Own Handcrafted Pearl Earrings

By Nathalie Fiset Instead of spending thousands of dollars purchasing original designs of handcrafted pearl earrings, why not make one yourself? And if you end up being pretty good at it, you might have unintentionally discovered your best chance of getting wealthy in your own right. Choosing the Pearls Before you can create handcrafted pearl earrings, youll need to complete the required materials and tools for the jobs first. The most important material for handcrafted pearl earrings is naturally the pearls themselves. You have to increase your knowledge of pearls and its different classifications to know which pearls will be within your budget and which ones will blend well together. White South China Sea Cultured pearls bearing this name have a grayish tinge and also command high prices in the market. Golden South Sea Prized for its rarity and golden colors, these cultured pearls are in great demand and fetch extremely high prices in the market. Synthethic Pearls The least expensive of all types of pearls, synthetic pearls are actually artificial pearls only. They are made from plastic or shell and dyed to appear in various colors. Freshwater Cultured Pearls The price range for this type of pearl greatly depends on its shape and skin or texture. Chinese Akoya These cultured pearls are affordable as well, of mediocre quality and pinkish white in appearance. Natural Pearls These pearls are rare to well, and you can generally find them selling only in premier auction houses for huge amounts of money. Black Sea Primarily harvested in French Polynesia, these cultured pearls are primarily unique because of their black hues. Designing Handcrafted Pearl Earrings There are several considerations you should take note of before making your design come to life. Pearl and Gem Combination If you are going to use a combination of pearls and other gems or stones, make sure that their colors complement each other. Be careful when using pearls with other types of minerals because theyre easily scratched and damaged. Shape, Form, or Symbol When designing handcrafted pearl earrings, you can increase the value of your product by creating earrings that resemble flowers or towers instead of the usual shapes of hearts, stars, and crosses. Color If youre going to use synthetic pearls for your handcrafted pearl earrings, you should consider dyeing them if changing their color will improve its overall appearance. Of course, make sure that whatever coloring or dyeing material youll use is one which will have long-lasting results and are definitely non-washable. Length Short or small sized handcrafted pearl earrings will appeal more to conservative customers while elaborate or lengthy designs will suit a more flamboyant clientele. Clasp or Lock Do you wish your handcrafted pearl earrings to be worn only by those with pierced ears or do they make use of clasps to allow women without ear piercing to wear them as well? Buying Materials for Your Handcrafted Pearl Earrings Online If you intend to purchase most of your supplies especially the pearls themselves from an online store, make sure that youre buying from a reputable seller. Here are several tips to ensure that you wont get conned out of your money when shopping for pearls online. Does the Store Accept Returns? Be extremely wary of pearl jewelry stores that dont. Sellers who are confident of the quality of their products are generally willing to post generous return policies. Security of Transaction Make sure that youre transacting with sites that provide adequate security for their clients. They must possess seals of approvals from accredited security organizations. Customer Support Firstly, the seller or website must provide verifiable contact information. They must at least have a valid email address you can contact. Their response time to your inquiries or complaints must also be quickly and efficiently acted upon. Product Details and Guarantees If youre shopping online for pearls, make sure that there are complete descriptions provided for each and every product. Full-blown images must accompany these descriptions so you can judge for yourself if what they have to say about the pearls are true. If, in the end, you have a hard time breathing life to your design for your handcrafted pearl earrings, consider hiring a professional and commissioning him to complete the task for you instead. Cell Phones Evolve And So Do The Worries

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Donna_Johnson_Edwards]Donna Johnson Edwards When I was a youngster I was among a very few latchkey kids in our neighborhood, but today, according to the Census Bureau, at least seven million latchkey children return to an empty house on any given afternoon. Most of us with latchkey kids have created a list of rules for them to follow, covering topics such as snacks, strangers at the door, phone calls, etc. They are pretty much the same ones our parents outlined for us as kids. But today, we have a growing list of additional worries to address, such as television programs, video games, computer programs such as instant messaging, and use of the Internet. A couple of years ago, my daughter was old enough to walk to her grandmothers house after school. I wrestled with the idea, but finally conceded that she was responsible and mature enough to handle the three-block trek on her own. There were some days when an after school activity she forgot to tell us about delayed her and caused everyone to worry. And sometimes even her grandmother lost track of time and wasnt there to greet her. We decided that she might be better off with a cell phone. I searched the Internet and found out what lots of experts and other parents had to say on the topic. I contacted her school to learn what their rules were regarding cell phones and then created a list of our own rules. She is required to leave the cell phone off during school hours and has a cutoff time each school night for all phone calls. She is allowed to make long-distance calls to her friends on weekends and can talk as long as she wants providing her chores and homework are done. She got a camera phone and has had some fun taking photos of her dogs and friends. All in all, she has done a good job of managing the responsibility. The only problems we have are that she is constantly losing her charger, forgetting to recharge and forgetting to turn on the phone when she should. Hum, sounds just like some adults I know! But I digress! I remember the first cell phone I had it was called a bag phone and it weighed about five pounds. It had to remain plugged into the lighter in my mommy-mobile but it was there in case I needed emergency assistance or to find out if my husband wanted something in particular for dinner when I stopped at Ukrops. Gee, portable phones have come a long way! I just read that Palm has announced it will offer Microsoft Windows Mobile software on its Treo smartphones. The phones, the first of which will be available from Verizon Wireless on its national broadband network, will permit calls, e-mail, Internet access, Office Mobile and more. I might actually like one of those if the buttons and screen are large enough for my feeble fingers and aging eyes. On another front, the federal government is considering a national all-hazards system to alert you via text message on your cell phone in the event of a disaster or attack directly affecting your area. You could receive Amber Alerts and the like on web-enabled devices. A public-warning solution such as this will require legislation to at the federal, state and local levels to create standards for interoperability as well as integrated technology so it isnt likely to be available in the very near term. This would however be a significant improvement over the 50-year-old system, developed during the cold war, which relies on radio and television broadcasts to communicate emergency news. With all the newfangled technology we have now, not many of us are carrying a portable radio in our pockets. You can bet though, that a cell phone or two and a BlackBerry device are sure to be found in just about any high-tech gals handbag! As the technologies continue to advance at a rapid pace, we are using our phones as business tools for e-mail, calendars and text messages and industry experts say it will not be long before we can use specially equipped phones instead of credit cards. Oh my, that could get us in trouble! And, frankly, as they do with most new technology, our kids are embracing new cell phone technology at a rapid pace. Today there are so many things you can do with a cell phone, I cant even keep track of them all. For example, I was recently on a business trip and the mobile phone for one member of the team was constantly sounding. Gosh, I thought, he is certainly a busy man, and then I found out that he was receiving stats on a sporting event! And though I havent personally witnessed this, I understand that downloading images of Playmates on cell phones is the latest fad in 17 countries. Playboy has announced plans to develop adult-theme games and ring tones for cell phones in the U.S. Oh great; yet another distraction for every prepubescent boy and many of my male coworkers. As with every technology come the associated risks such as hackers targeting the data on our mobile devices and creating malicious software specifically designed to exploit all of those innovative features! The Trusted Computing Group (TCG) has developed hardware-based standards for mobile devices, to thwart criminals and to provide greater control by cell phone operators. Although hardware-based security is not new to the industry, manufacturers have yet to standardize, which keeps costs higher for everyone. In addition, several manufacturers have created cell phones designed specifically for younger kids, which include many parental control features, simple buttons, flashy designs and limits on permissions for incoming and outgoing calls. If you have a young child who needs a cell phone, consider the TicTalk by Enfora or the Firefly by Firefly Mobile. However for teenagers (and possibly those in a corporate environment) there is another solution on the horizon. RuleSpace has developed a parental control solution for mobile providers that rates mobile content on the fly. Mobile operators can offer subscribers the ability to block inappropriate content from web-enabled devices. In other words, Johnny cant look at porn and staff can keep focused on the work at hand! James Dirksen, vice president of operations for RuleSpace, said, The biggest difference between the traditional Internet and the mobile web is the size of the content. The technology weve developed is capable of recognizing inappropriate content based on a much smaller message that is going to a cell phone versus a PC. So despite the fact that with every emerging technology there is a corresponding threat, we can be thankful that there are an equal number of technologists working hard to combat those threats. If we could put our techno-teenagers to work developing technological solutions, we would have a real home run and could all be notified of it on our mobile devices! Ring-beep you have web-mail!
